The Savior of the world, asleep in His mother's care.

There is something profoundly beautiful about contemplating the hidden life of Jesus. The Son of God entered our world not in earthly splendor, but in the quiet simplicity of a family, where He was loved, protected, and cared for by Mary and Joseph.

This antique painting captures one of those tender moments. The infant Jesus sleeps peacefully as Our Lady watches over Him, while St. Joseph stands nearby. Their golden halos illuminate the dark, richly aged colors of the painting, drawing our attention to the holiness of this ordinary family scene.

A beautiful reminder that God is present in the quiet and hidden moments of our own homes, and that family life itself can be a place of great holiness.

An original antique painting from Peru, bearing the beautiful character and signs of age that make a piece like this so special. Only one available.

Frame not included: 20" x 25"

The painting was done by hand in Cuzco, Peru, where artists have been making sacred art this way for almost five hundred years. The Cuzco school began in the 1500s when Spanish missionaries trained Quechua and mestizo painters to make devotional works for the new churches of the Andes. What came out of that integration was its own thing entirely. The gold brocade detail on every garment, the raised halos, and the warmth in the faces are all signatures of the tradition. The close-up images show the level of detail: individual rays on each halo, gold lace on Christ's loincloth, stars on Mary's mantle. This is the most intricate piece in the collection.
